ASERRADEROS CHOLGUAN S.A. INSTALLS ARMSTRONG BANDSAW LEVELER | ||
Aserraderos Cholguan S.A., located
in Cholguan, Chile, installed the Armstrong Band Saw Leveler in their new sawmill filing
room. This is the first Armstrong Leveler in South America. Wanting to expand their present sawmill for more production, Cholguan ran into a problem with the lack of available land around the present mill. Cholguan had to expand on their property across the road from the existing sawmill and are building a complete sawmill complex, including sawmill, planer and dry kilns. The new mill has a chipper canter followed by a quad bandmill as their primary breakdown center, a second chipper canter, board edger, cant gang edger, trimmer and automatic sorter. Cholguan chose the Armstrong Band Saw Leveler to assist the filers with leveling the quad saws. The mill will process Radiata pine logs grown on Cholguans own plantations. With thousands of acres of Radiata pine plantations reaching maturity, Chile is fast becoming a large player in the lumber industry. Existing mills can not produce lumber as fast as the trees become ready for harvest. Seven new sawmills are in the planning stages to be built in the next two years. The Leveler was started up by Armstrong with the assistance of Ricardo Schmidlin of Ligni, the distributor of Armstrong products in Chile. Head filer Carlos Beltran reports the Leveler is working great. Carlos commented "it is a user friendly machine and simple to operate." |
