| I ventured into the Grande Rhonde
area of eastern Washington on my first deer hunting excursion in October 1997. My hunting
partner was Tom Parks, Head Filer at Bennett Lumber in Clarkston, Washington. Tom and I
spent a day and a half climbing around in very steep country before I sighted a buck that
met the 3 point minimum requirements for the state. When I first saw him, he was over 300 yards away, but I knew he was mine. It took me three shots to hit him, only because I hadnt shot a rifle in such a long time. We spent the next half day field dressing him and bringing him back to our camp. Our legs were tired and our bodies were sore, but I had my trophy to bring home. |
