New Grinding Wheel Arbor Assemblies

Improved grinding wheel arbor assemblies have been developed for most conventional Armstrong automatic saw sharpeners. These heavier arbors were originally developed at the request of Mr. Kiyoshi Oki, the Armstrong distributor in Japan. The new arbors are so superior to the original design, that we will discontinue the old-style arbors and balancing collars later this year.

The new arbors do not use a balancing collar. Wheels are mounted directly to the arbor. There is less flex and vibration. The original guards can be used with the new style arbors or your customers may want to upgrade to the ShapeUp wheel dresser, which is always supplied with a new wheel guard.

For Nos. 4, 6 and 25 sharpeners: The same 12" diameter x 1" (31.75 mm) bore grinding wheels that have always been used on these machines will continue to be used with the new arbors. No change in the arbor bearings is required when installing a new style arbor on these machines.

For No. 2 sharpeners: The same 10" diameter x 1" (25.4 mm) bore grinding wheels that have always been recommended will continue to be used with the new arbor. When installing the new arbor on a No. 2 sharpener, new bearings and the improved poly-V belt drive must also be installed. The new bearings support the heavier, 1" O.D. arbor. The poly-V belt and pulleys are required to drive this new style arbor on the No. 2 sharpener. This poly-V drive is recommended (but not required) on all other band saw sharpeners when upgrading to the new style arbor.
