No. 54-C Hand Sharpener:

Carbide filers choose Armstrong’s No. 54-C hand sharpener for topping and facing a complete range of circle saws. The No. 54-C accommodates saws from 6"to 48"in diameter and offers precision sharpening at a very economical price. From large mills to small saw shops, the 54-C provides filers with versatile, efficient way to care of their carbide saws.

Armstrong’s No. 54-C is perfectly suited for the sizes and quantities of saw typical of smaller mills and saw shops. It’s quick to set up, easy to operate and precisely sharpens a full range of saws. Affordably priced, the 54-C’s solid, cast iron and steel construction ensures many years of dependable service with minimal maintenance.

For larger mills, caring for a higher quantity of saws, the No. 54-C is ideal for repair work, touch-up jobs, and as a back-up sharpener. Saw repair is done quickly and efficiently, freeing time on the larger, automatic sharpeners for more routine saw care.

  • VERSATILITY
    Capable of grinding the tops and faces of carbide tipped saws from 6"to 48"in diameter. Alternating bevels on faces and tops can also be quickly and evenly ground. Even carbide tipped cut-off saws up to 60"can be face ground (up to 72"if the saw is lowered by special request.)
  • ACCURACY
    The 54-C produces precise, uniform saw teeth time after time. Accuracy is ensured through proven design, heavy-duty construction and careful attention to every detail during the manufacturing process.
  • QUICK AND EASY TO SET UP
    Manual operation means there are fewer set-ups and adjustments to make. The grinding wheel and saw are easily adjusted for just the right top and hook angles. A micrometer hand wheel is used to quickly set the depth of cut.
  • SOLID CONSTRUCTION
    Rugged cast iron and steel construction ensures many years of dependable service with minimum maintenance. The No. 54-C comes equipped with a 1 h.p. motor for fast, uniform grinding of precision edged saws or heavy slasher saws.
  • GRINDS CARBIDE, STEEL OR Cobalt Chromium Alloy
    Quick change grinding wheel arbors accommodate diamond or CBN wheels with 1¼"bores or resinoid wheels up to 10"with¾"bore.

NO. 54-C FEATURES:

  • WET GRINDING
    Convenient drip pan is available for wet grinding. Optional coolant pump is easily attached.
  • INDEXING
    A spring loaded tooth stop is included for indexing teeth to maintain a uniform top clearance angle.
  • QUICK CONE
    Quick mount saw centering cones lock the saw securely in place. Ball bearing centering bushes are also available as an option for added precision.
  • FIRM SAW SUPPORT
    Saw support is enhanced through the use of spring loaded bronze saw rests which brace the saw for precision grinding.
  • OPTIONAL STROB ATTACHMENT
    A saw offset attachment is available for easy, accurate facing of strob saw inserts.
  • SUPPORTED BY ARMSTRONG AND A TEAM OF STOCKING DISTRIBUTOR/SERVICE CENTERS

No. 64 Side Grinder:

Armstrong’s No. 64 side grinder is a compact, light-duty grinder for carbide tipped saws. Two models are available: the No. 64-30 for circular saws up to 48"in diameter.

Side grinding replacement tips is accomplished quickly and easily on the No. 64. This low-cost, portable grinder requires minimal set-up with only two quick adjustments needed to set clearance angles. The No. 64 is built for precision, yet simple in design, with a minimum number of parts for easy maintenance.

  • ACCURATE, ECONOMICAL GRINDING
    Especially well adapted for light-duty side grinding, the No. 64 offers precision side grinding at a minimal cost.
  • SIMPLE TO OPERATE
    Only two adjustments are needed to set the exact clearance angles desired. The micrometer control hand wheel is marked in thousandths for precise control of the depth of cut.
  • COMPACT
    This bench model grinder requires only a small amount of space and can easily be moved out of the way when not in use.
  • PROVEN DESIGN
    Cast iron parts are used for durability and longevity. A minimum number of parts makes the No. 64 easy to operate and easy to maintain.
  • SAW CENTERING
    The No. 64 uses the same centering cone as the No. 54-C for quick and easy centering of the saw.
  • DIAMOND GRINDING WHEEL
    The flaring cup diamond wheel sharpens both coarse and fine teeth. The same flat dish diamond wheel used on the No. 54-C can also be used if desired on coarse teeth.
No. 70 Side Grinder:

Armstrong’s No. 70 grinder accurately side grinds carbide tipped saws as well as the sides of Strob saw inserts. Used in combination with Armstrong’s No. 54-C, the two provide a complete carbide sharpening set-up for a wide range of circle saws. The No. 70 is a sturdy, heavy-duty machine, built for years of accurate, reliable service. Many features are offered by the No. 70 Side Grinder to ensure precision grinding and ease of use, including:

  • STROB SAW INSERTS
    Smooth movement of the saw table on V-tracks and ball bearing rollers allows travel to 11½"–making it possible to side grind even the longest Strob saw inserts.
  • EASY TO OPERATE
    Convenient hand lever adjusts to the desired length of stroke. Speed is controlled by the operator.
  • EASY TO ADJUST
    Angle adjustments are exact and simple to make. The radial angle bars, located at the end of the saw bar, can be positioned for 0°to 5°settings. The tangential angle is positively set using two studs which control the grinding wheel. The adjustable studs are preset at the factory for 2°. If more or less angle is preferred, please specify when ordering.
  • PRECISION GRINDING
    The diamond grinding wheel is mounted on a heavy-duty bearing quill. Markings on the hand wheel indicate .003"of grinding wheel travel for precise material removal.
  • POWER AND RELIABILITY
    One full h.p. guarantees smooth operation, even during heavy grinding. Rugged, heavy-duty construction ensures many years of reliable service.
OPTIONAL 64-L SIDE GRINDER
For Grinding Large Cut-Off Saws in Place! Large cut-off saws are often difficult to remove and transport to the filing room for sharpening. The portable 64-L side grinder is specially adapted to grind both the top and face of these large saws on location. Contact Armstrong or your local distributor for details.

Armstrong brazing tables are stocked in two sizes: one for circular saws up to 18"in diameter and a second for saws up to 28"in diameter. (Additional sizes can be special ordered at extra cost.) Both bench type and floor model with sturdy,"lazy-susan"base are available.

Armstrong offers an excellent gauge for measuring side clearance and checking angles on carbide saw teeth. This accurate and easy-to-read gauge is available from stock by ordering part no. 7959.
BRAZING TABLES FEATURE:
  • HEAVY-DUTY CONSTRUCTION
    Heavy-duty, precision ground steel plate holds the saw in place while carbide tips are brazed on to the saw teeth.
  • ACCURATE CENTERING
    Armstrong brazing tables provide a centering shaft for the quick centering cone (optional) to accurately position the saw on the table.
  • EASY ADJUSTMENT FOR CLEARANCE
    The exact amount of clearance needed to mount the tips on the blade is easily adjusted with 3 set screws.
